2014 - Welcome to Robin's Hood...Bomo goes to Nottingham

2014 took Bomo to Nottingham, home of Robbo Hood team captain Laurence. The usual crew were joined by a few players from the Madjic Tour, requiring some 2 v 1 matchplay solutions from Laurence and Dave's Merry Men team captain Dave Chilvers.

Friday's matches were played at Sherwood Forest Golf Club, 44th in the top 100 English courses and a true test with undulating fairways, copious trees and tight, fast greens. Three putts a plenty on the Friday! Saturday's golf was at The Nottingshire, another challenging course and also memerable for a fine english breakfast to clear some foggy heads. The finale was played at Radcliffe-on-Trent G.C., on paper an easier course but after two days drinking and golfing proving to be the highest scoring.

Day One (1.5 - 1.5)

Honours were even after day one, with matchplay carved into 2 v 1 matches. Dave M came up against a pair who scored a sublime 82 cumulative points in Chenners and Stokesy Paul scored well in his match shooting 88 but couldn't match Simon and Chilvers over 18 holes matchplay. Dean fought hard against the pair of Alex and Laurence, a game which swung back and forth before ending in a fair draw after 18. The round was punctuated by some extreme weather at the end, a deluge forcing the 2nd 4 ball to walk off the 18th green without scoring whilst the last group hid under a tree for twenty minutes in hope of respite. Indeed the rain passed and to the credit of the course the 18th was playable by the time the players walked up the last fairway.

Day Two (1.5 - 4.5)

One word, whitewash. Dave's Merry Men put in match winning performances in all three games at the Nottingshire. Chris beating Stokesy in a very close first match, Chilvers and Maclean beating off a challenge from Chenners and Alex, who will personally not want to remember making a 10 at the last when chasing a draw. Dave M shot a fine 80 81 to set Bomo's lowest gross round yet.

Day Three (4.5 - 6.5)

Robbo Hood had their work cut out to make up a three point deficit but started brightly with Laurence beating an out of sorts Simon to narrow the lead to two. In the next all Madjic game however Chris beat Chenners and Chilvers maintained his 100% matchplay record by beating Stokesy, crossing the all important 5.5 point mark to seal victory. In the last match Alex was gifted the first 6 holes against Dean who fought back but couldn't make up for his early morning woes whilst Paul battled to beat Dave in the last match. Victory was complete for Dave's Merry Men to ride off back to London with the trophy.

Race to Notto

Day One

The day one lead was held by Stokesy with a 43 that he himself was stunned with round the tough Sherwood course. Chenners was a solid second with 39 points and Dean and Alex next best both on 34.

Day Two

There was no change to the leading two positions on moving day, the leaders again scoring well with 35 and 33. The big mover of the day was Dave Maclean with 40 points including three birdies. Alex and Dean remained in contention with 34 points each, matching each other not only in scores but also in making a ten on one holes each.

Day Three

The leaders faltered on the final day, shooting 24 and 22 points each to open the door to the chasing bunch. Stokesy added enough to his points tally to keep third place with 100 points leaving Alex and Dave M to fight out victory. This was a round of two halves, Alex out in 41 and back in 46 for an 87 and Dave suffering earlier with a 48 out and chasing hard for victory with a 41 on the back nine. Ultimately victory was Alex's with 104 points to 102. The handicapping committee was led to question why Alex off 16 and Dave 15 but they declined to comment.
