Day One
Friday saw everyone seemingly fired up and some fine scores were had on a good course with lots of risk / reward options all day.
Dean topped the leaderboard with a super 40 points, whilst 7 other players scored 30 or more. Smez started the defence
of his championship in 2nd with a solid 37 points and Paul made his presence felt in 3rd with a very good 35. All good scores on a new course and a
fine start to the weekend.
Day Two
Saturday as per usual brought golf scores back down a touch. Smez topped the day with 35 points and was level with Dean
on 72 points for 36 holes, Dean with 32 himself. Laurence and Khalid shot 31 points keeping their scores
ticking along nicely, Dave shot 29 and everyone else was living in gash city with an average of 24 points between the bottom 7. The situation
was however brightened immensely by raids on the half way hut for buckets of beer... this not being correlated to the scores at all!
This was turning rapidly into a two tier competition with Dean and Smez 8 points clear of Khalid in third
and the rest a way back.
The battle for the wooden spoon
was being contested appropriately by the captains, Simon with 48 points over the
first two days compared to Tom just behind on 51.
Day Three
Two solid nights of boozing for most meant Sunday was a sea of broken faces on the practice green and a few beers were even purchased before tee off
to keep some spirits alive. Khalid proved that party beats business by scoring a memorable 16 points after one hours sleep, moving from
third to 2nd last
place but seemingly having the most fun of everyone round a strange course cut around valleys and over oddly placed walls. The also rans all scored more scores
in the mid twenties and don't get a mention. Paul, Duncan and Dave brought some golf at least, shooting 30,35 and 33 respectively.
This settled Dave into third place leaving Dean and Smez fighting for the title. In one of the closest finales yet,
the match swung in Smez's favour before Dean fought back to level the overall scores on the 16th and 52nd hole. A tie
up 17 left all to play for. Smez finished with a cool par but Dean had a hole to forget with a nasty 8
and the match was won.
Smez, played two, won two. We don't fancy playing off your handicap next year.
In the race for the spoon Simon took the honours, beating Tom and Khalid by three clear shots to get the
inaugural wooden spoon award, well done Simon!
