The Cup

Fore Horsemen v 4 Headed Sex Beast

Day One (0.5 - 1.5)

Back to Bomo with a new course up first, Paultons Golf Centre on the edge of the New Forest. After an early commute in the morning we all arrived to find it pissing down with rain with no break predicted for hours. The decision was made to eat another brunch, have a beer or two and play on quiz machines in the clubhouse rather than get soaked on our first morning. We finally tee'd off around 1pm as excited as ever. A few players started brightly, Dave birding the 1st and Alex turning up with a brand new driver for the 2nd year running and smacking it down the middle for a birdie himself .(the driver only did that for the next five holes then back to 100yrd hooks into all kinds of crap). In the first flight Simon and Laurence proved a handy pairing drawing with Dave and Shan, whilst in the 2nd game Alex and Dean beat Paul (Tom was this year's victim of work preventing a full Friday complement).

Day Two (1.5 - 2.5)

Gorse, wind, hills, giant breakfast baps. It's the Isle of Purbeck! We crossed the famous sandbanks ferry to return to one of Bomo Golfo's spiritual homes and a true test of our golf. It would be fair to say the course won on the day with the scoring difficult across the field. Alex and Dave took on Tom and Laurence in the first match and even though both were out of sorts they brought the victory home for 4 Headed Sex Beast. Simon and Paul however evened up the day for 4 Horsemen with a fine victory over Dean and Shan to keep the match close into the last day.

Day Three (4.5 - 3.5)

It is still a surprise that all 8 players made the official start times on the Sunday after some serious drinking throughout Bournemouth on the night before with some still out only 5 hours before their allotted tee time at Meyrick Park. The fact Simon drove Dave's car to the course for him says it all! The golf which followed may have been influenced by the night time spirit of Bomo. 4 Headed Sex Beast lost their overnight lead when Laurence beat Shan up front and when Paul gave Alex a drubbing they were one point from victory. Dean was the rock in Sex Beast's armoury scoring their only point of the day against Simon, levelling the match 3.5 v 3.5. Tom against Dave in the last match would then decide the cup but the expectation of a high calibre game was dashed just looking at the state of them and the golf was on a par, 24 points v 28 scored. In the end Tom was victorious and 4 Horsemen got their names on the trophy for 2015.

The Scores

Champion of Bomo 2.0

Day One

Everyone was feeling good about their chances after day one with the top six all scoring 34 or 35 points each. Top of the tree were Dave and Paul after shooting 86 and 84 respectively and it was all to play for after 18 holes.

Day Two

Purbeck added it's usual touch of destruction to the scorecards, Dave and Tom playing themselves out of contention with 24 points each and Alex forgetting how to play entirely and scraping only 21. The players went through their reserve golf balls at a ready pace and most ended up with more gorse scars than pars excepting Paul, Simon and Dean who all kept their heads and scored well. The leaderboard overnight showed Simon and Paul level on 67 points with Dean 5 back on 62.

Day Three

On to Meyrick Park in a haze for the 2015 finale. Simon could not quite match his high scoring but held himself together well enough to earn 26 points and third place with 93 overall. Paul, the low handicapper off 12 had a very inconsistent day, scoring 3 or more points on 7 holes but scoring a big fat zero on 6, picking up 30 points and 97 overall. Dean was the king of consistency again though, earning his second Bomo Golfo Champion trophy with a fantastic round of 37 points to finish on 99 and champion again. Congratulations Deano!
