Day One (0.5 - 1.5)
After much appreciated bacon sandwiches at Dave's we formed a convoy down to the Kent coast (which Simon and Shan treated as their own personal episode of
Fast and the Furious whilst Laurence managed to go the wrong way back and try to drive back to London).
The actual golf kicked off at Canterbury Golf Club, where everyone turned up, we had time to watch some England cricket, eat a hearty lunch, hit some balls
at the range and somehow everyone still nearly missed their tee times!
Canterbury was a friendly place and served a good course which worked to kick the rust off everyone's golf, lots of trees and lush rough to find for those willing
or unable to avoid investigating further.
The first marker was put down as the team from Dude Looks Like a Birdie, Dave with newcomer Duncan put Dude Where's My Par?'s
Dean and Shan to the sword whilst Robbos Alex and Simon played out an up and down draw against Paul and Laurence, the more impressive since Simon was ill
enough to resemble a golfing member of the walking dead.
Day Two (1.5 - 2.5)
Saturday's golf took us to the links course of North Foreland, where everyone left knowing they had played a good course, defined by wispy long rough,
quick greens and some changeable breezes off the sea. In the first four ball Alex and Dean for the Pars dovetailed nicely, an inspired
Alex performance making it difficult all day for Dave and Paul of the Birdies and running out winners with Dean putting in a few key holes
on the back nine. In the other match Duncan along with Laurence in team Birdie had a bit of a
stroll in the park against Simon and Shan, neither finding their form on the links.
There was just one point separating the teams after two days, Dude Looks Like a Birdie happier in the lead but all to play for.
Day Three (2.5 - 5.5)
Sunday's finale was played at Chestfield, a parkland course with some big hills to play up and keeping everyone working until the last. Simon again worked
his usual attempts to get the other team to stay out drinking all night to ruin their games but it was the younger Robbo Laurence who along with Duncan and
Shan kept going until they ran out of local dives to provide just one more drink.
Sunday morning also provided a weather forecast that would have had ducks hiding indoors and most spent the morning in a mild panic checking weather apps,
rain radars and alternate tee times whilst nervously searching for umbrellas. We teed off in waterproofs at 11am under light drizzle but
the expected downpour never came, the benevolent Gods of the Bomo allowing the final day to play out without delay.
In the battle of the ladies handicaps (36...), Laurence kept up his number one matchplay record and beat Shan to extend the lead to 3.5 v 1.5. Next up Simon
couldn't match the power of Duncan and another point went to the Birdies putting the match out of sight at 4.5 to 1.5 and Sunday was looking
ominous for the Pars. Alex put up some resistance against Dave with a close victory then Paul beat Dean to make the final score 5.5 to 2.5 and
secure Bomo Golfo's largest team victory yet. A Par never beats a Birdie after all.
